Electronic notepads will become the new growth point of E Ink

Like many Taiwanese companies large and small, paper-like screen maker E Ink Holdings had a booth at Computex 2019. Unfortunately for the company and E Ink display fans, the era of e-book readers has come to an end. New point of growth, about which E Ink is optimistic, should become electronic notepads (e-notebook). However, the topic double-screen solutions in the form of laptops and tablets with an E Ink secondary display also resonates with developers.

According to representatives of E Ink, referred to by the Taiwanese Internet resource DigiTimes, there is an increase in interest in electronic notepads in the educational environment, in business and on the part of ordinary consumers. A number of companies, including reMarkable, Sony, iFLYTEK, Supernote and Onyx International, are already launching branded solutions in the form of electronic notepads with E Ink screens. E Ink itself also has a 13,3-inch paperless conferencing solution and the portfolio of developments in this area will only grow. At the company's booth at Computex, one could see an electronic notepad for notes.

At the moment, the company is starting to compensate for the decline in interest in book readers with interest in electronic price tags with E Ink displays. The company's customers from the USA, Europe, China and Japan in the first quarter of 2019 significantly increased the purchases of these products. In particular, together with the partner company SES-imagotag, we started supplying price tags with E Ink to the Japanese retail chain Bic Camera. This and other price tag orders increased E Ink's first-quarter net income 9,6 times year-on-year to $13,89 million (NT$438 million). E Ink's earnings per share for the year increased from NT$0,04 to NT$0,39. We, as consumers, cannot but rejoice at the optimism and good financial performance of E Ink. The company has unique and interesting developments, which the "invisible hand of the market" seems to be able to throw into the dustbin of history.
