Emacs 26.2

On Cosmonautics Day, another joyful event happened - the release of the Lisp runtime environment for Emacs programs, most famous for the best (according to Emacs users) text editor.

The previous release took place a little less than a year ago, so there are not so many noticeable changes:

  • support for version 11 unicode
  • support for building modules in an arbitrary directory
  • convenient file compression command in the built-in file manager

In addition, it is worth noting the release of 9.2.3 org-mode - a mode for managing notes, tables, calendars and everything that is necessary for organizing productive work. Although it is part of Emacs, it has its own release cycle.

From personal experience, even org-mode https://orgmode.org/ is already enough to think about switching to Emacs.

In anticipation of the inevitable jokes over 300 about the “missing editor”: http://spacemacs.org/ is a pre-configured Emacs distribution inspired by vim.
