Emacs 26.2

On Cosmonautics Day, another joyful event happened - the release of the Lisp runtime environment for Emacs programs, most famous for the best (according to Emacs users) text editor.

The previous release took place a little less than a year ago, so there are not so many noticeable changes:

  • support for version 11 unicode
  • support for building modules in an arbitrary directory
  • convenient file compression command in the built-in file manager

In addition, it is worth noting the release of 9.2.3 org-mode - a mode for managing notes, tables, calendars and everything that is necessary for organizing productive work. Although it is part of Emacs, it has its own release cycle.

From personal experience - even org-mode https://orgmode.org/ already enough to think about switching to Emacs.

In anticipation of the inevitable $300 jokes about the "missing editor": http://spacemacs.org/ is a preconfigured distribution of Emacs based on vim.
