It is done, brothers and sisters!
The long-awaited (no kidding - the release process was so long that even the developers themselves began to laugh about it in the emacs-devel mailing list) release of the emacs-lisp runtime system, which implements a text editor, a file manager, a mail client, a package installation system and many different functions.
In this release:
- built-in support for numbers of integers of arbitrary size (Emacs has a great calculator built in with support for RPN and algebraic calculations)
- built-in JSON support
- Font rendering now uses the HarfBuzz library
- added support for tabs
- working with images without using ImageMagick
- Lexical-binding is used by default (if you did not write in Lisp, you can safely ignore this item)
- additional config support for early initialization (this may be of interest to spacemacs users)
- support for XDG specifications for placing files in the home directory (finally!)
Personally, I am especially pleased with the last point, although the changes are not limited to those listed.
Connoisseurs of arch-boyans are invited to comment - to place bets on who will be the first to "joke" about the lack of a text editor in GNU / Emacs: when else will you hear a joke that is older than most of the ENT visitors?
