The European Union has launched an antitrust investigation into possible anti-competitive practices by Qualcomm, which could take advantage of its leading position in the radio frequency chip market in the 5G modem chip category. The San Diego-based company said this Wednesday in a report sent to regulators.

Information on Qualcomm's activities was requested by the European Commission, the highest executive body of the European Union, on December 10 last year. If violations are detected, the European Commission may impose a fine of up to XNUMX% of the company’s annual income.

Qualcomm has entered into RF chip supply contracts with Samsung Electronics, Alphabet, Google, LG Electronics, etc.

Other major suppliers of RF chips include Broadcom Inc, Skyworks Solutions Inc and Qorvo Inc.
