Qualcomm Reference Wireless Headset Gets Google Assistant and Fast Pair Support

Qualcomm last year presented reference design of a smart wireless headset (Qualcomm Smart Headset Platform) based on previously announced energy-efficient single-chip audio system QCC5100 with Bluetooth support. The headset initially supported integration with the Amazon Alexa voice assistant.

The company has now announced a partnership with Google that adds support for Google Assistant and Fast Pair technology to its reference device. This will make it easier for manufacturers to create advanced wireless audio headsets and stereo headphones to work with smartphones and other categories of devices through the Google Assistant.

The reference design involves activating the Google Assistant at the touch of a button — the device connects to a voice assistant app running on a smartphone. Google Fast Pair helps make it easier for end users to pair Bluetooth devices, especially when they need to frequently switch between multiple devices. Technology support has been added to the Qualcomm QCC5100, QCC3024 and QCC3034 single-chip systems.
