Games Industry spoke with Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO Jim Ryan. IN
Jim Ryan's statement reads: "We've talked about this before. We are not going to add [own] new releases to the subscription model. These games cost millions of dollars, over $100 million goes into development. Such a strategy does not seem viable to us.”
The CEO then explained that future titles from Sony Interactive Entertainment's in-house studios would not make sense under a Game Pass-like subscription: “We want to make games bigger and better, and also hope to make them long-lived at some stage. So putting them into the subscription model from day one doesn't make any sense to us. For other [companies] in a similar position, it might work, but for us it doesn't. We want to expand and develop our own ecosystem, and including new games in a subscription model is not part of [Sony's] current strategy."
