Facebook will train AI in Minecraft

The Minecraft game is widely known and very popular in the world. Moreover, its popularity is facilitated by weak security, which allows the creation of unofficial servers. However, what is much more important is that the game provides almost unlimited possibilities for the formation of virtual worlds, creativity, and so on. And that’s why experts from Facebook intend to use the game to train artificial intelligence.

Facebook will train AI in Minecraft

At the moment, artificial intelligence is already tearing people apart in Starcraft II and Go, but AI is not yet oriented in most more general tasks. This is exactly what Facebook wants to do - train a neural network in such a way that it can become a full-fledged assistant for a person.

According to experts, the simplicity and versatility of Minecraft allows the game to be an ideal training ground, since it allows you to create a lot even in the usual “creative” mode. Ordinary players have already created the Enterprise D starship from Star Trek in Minecraft, launched a game within a game, etc.

As expected, all this will allow the virtual assistant M to be brought back to life. The company launched it based on the proprietary Messenger in 2015, but then canceled the project. M was positioned as a solution with artificial intelligence, but it turned out to be unclaimed.

First, human supervision was often required to carry out its tasks. And secondly, most users did not use M, which limited its learning ability. As a result, the project was abandoned.

At the moment, it is unclear how the AI is planned to be trained, how long it will take and when to expect a commercial version. But the process is obviously underway.
