Facebook will transfer to remote work up to half of the staff

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg (pictured) said Thursday that over the next 5 to 10 years, about half of the company's employees may be working remotely.

Zuckerberg announced that Facebook is going to "aggressively" increase its hiring of employees for "remote work", as well as "prudently approach" the opening of permanent remote jobs for existing employees.

“We will be the most promising company in the field of remote work on our scale,” said the head of Facebook. According to a survey conducted by Facebook, 50% of employees say they are as productive at home as they are at the office, Zuckerberg said. About 40% of employees said they were interested in continuing to work remotely even after the end of the pandemic. Of those, three-quarters said they could move if they were allowed to continue working from home.

For starters, Facebook will allow existing employees to switch to full-time remote work if they meet certain criteria. They may include experienced employees who have achieved high results. It can also be employees in remote teams and those who have received the approval of their team leaders. This does not apply to recent graduates.

Companies such as Twitter, Square, and Shopify have made similar remote work decisions in the past.

In the event that remote employees move to another city, their salary may be revised, Zuckerberg warned.

According to Miranda Kalinowski, Facebook vice president and global director of recruiting, the move to remote work opens up new avenues for hiring.

“The fact that people don't have to choose between where they want to live and where they work is incredible to me,” she said. “I think it just opens the door for many, many people who otherwise wouldn’t accept us because they weren’t ready to move in order to get a job.”
