Facebook says goodbye to Windows Phone

Social network Facebook says goodbye to the family of applications for Windows Phone and will soon remove them completely. This goes for Messenger, Instagram, and the Facebook app itself. A company representative confirmed this to Engadget. Support will reportedly end on April 30th. After this date, users will have to be content with the browser.

It is important to note that this is specifically about removing programs from the app store, although it is not yet clear how many active users this will affect. Whether already installed applications will be deactivated is not yet known. As for the mobile OS itself, its support will end in December when Microsoft stops releasing security updates. However, given that the company abandoned the development of this system back in 2016, this does not look at all surprising.

Note that if you don’t want to go to the browser every time, you can add a link to your account to your smartphone’s desktop. Or use alternatives: Winsta or 6tag for Instagram and SlimSocial for Facebook.

True, the recent data leak from VKontakte should probably cool the ardor of those who are ready to use third-party programs. Not all developers are conscientious, so there is a risk of identity theft through alternative applications.

However, there is an easier, albeit at the same time more expensive way - to switch to iOS or Android. Despite all the shortcomings of these systems and business models of companies, they now occupy almost the entire mobile OS market. This means that developers will release software updates specifically for them, and not for “dinosaurs”.
