Facebook bans ads claiming to cure coronavirus

It has been reported that Facebook is tightening its rules on coronavirus-related ads to reduce the number of misinformation messages within its platform. The ban includes any advertisements offering to cure or prevent the spread of the coronavirus.

“Recently, we implemented a policy to ban advertising that is related to the coronavirus and creates a sense of urgency, such as a limited supply of something or guaranteeing treatment and prevention. A similar policy prohibiting such behavior applies to the Marketplace,” a Facebook spokesperson said in commenting on the matter.

Currently, Facebook and other technology platforms are trying to combat blatant misinformation about the coronavirus, which has been diagnosed in more than 79 people around the world. Facebook applies fact checkers to questionable posts to determine their authenticity. If the message turns out to be false, then it is immediately deleted.

Other tech companies are also experiencing a surge in unwanted activity related to COVID-19. For example, some third-party sellers on the Amazon platform are trying to impose their prices on medical face masks by exponentially increasing their regular price.
