The company says it surveyed potential buyers of the smartphone and they chose /e/ from the options offered. The operating system is based on Android AOSP and has a lot of built-in functions designed to control what information the smartphone will share with the outside world, and the system is devoid of Google services. Its creator is GaΓ«l Duval, a French developer, creator of Mandrake/Mandriva Linux and Ulteo. It is worth noting that /e/ is an operating system for people who clearly understand why they need this particular software, and is unlikely to be convenient for the average user.
