FAS accuses Samsung of coordinating prices for smartphones and tablets

The Federal Antimonopoly Service (FAS) of the Russian Federation found the Russian subsidiary of Samsung guilty of coordinating prices for mobile devices. This was reported by Interfax with reference to the press service of the department.

β€œThe commission came to the conclusion that the actions of Samsung Electronics Rus Company were qualified under Part 5 of Art. 11 of the law (illegal coordination of economic activities in the markets of Samsung smartphones and tablets),” the FAS said in a statement. The maximum penalty under this article involves a fine of 5 million rubles.

In 2018, the antimonopoly regulator conducted an unscheduled on-site inspection of the Russian subsidiary of Samsung and came to the conclusion that it coordinates the activities of retailers that sell the company's equipment. According to the agency, with the help of such actions, the manufacturer maintains a single price for certain series of smartphones and tablets.

According to the Federal Antimonopoly Service, Samsung coordinated prices for Galaxy A5 2017, Galaxy S7, Galaxy S8 Plus, Galaxy J1 2016, Galaxy J3 2017, Galaxy J5 2017, Galaxy J7 2016, Galaxy J7 2017 smartphones and Galaxy Tab A 7.0, Galaxy Tab E tablets 9.6, Galaxy Tab A 10.1, Galaxy Tab S2 VE and Galaxy Tab 3 Lite 7.0.

Recall that the Federal Antimonopoly Service has repeatedly filed cases against manufacturers of mobile devices for coordinating prices for their products in Russia. Among them were Apple and LG Electronics.
