According to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the number of incidents related to various kinds of cybercrime has jumped by 300% during the coronavirus pandemic. FBI announces explosive growth in cybercrime during coronavirus pandemic

First of all, such an impressive jump is due to an increase in the number of attacks directed against users who are unaware of basic security measures and who are forced to stay at home due to quarantine. The FBI notes the increased level of attacks that are carried out by government hackers from different countries. The department believes that such campaigns are organized to steal research data related to the coronavirus.

β€œDifferent countries are very interested in getting information about the coronavirus and a vaccine that can resist it. We have seen intelligence activity and attempts to break into the infrastructure of some institutions that have announced that they are conducting research related to the coronavirus, ”said Tonya Ugoretz, a spokesman for the FBI cybersecurity unit.

It has been noted that medical organizations such as the World Health Organization, as well as social services, are increasingly being targeted by hacker attacks. In addition, the number of phishing campaigns directed against ordinary citizens is growing significantly. In the process of their implementation, users are sent emails on behalf of allegedly legitimate sources, which contain links to malicious resources.
