After a 5-year hiatus, the Finnix distribution is back to life with the release of version 120. Finnix is a Debian-based live-CD distribution designed for system administrators to manage hard disks and partitions, monitor networks, and restore boot records.
The new version is the first release of the project for the x86_64 architecture.
Innovations:
- Support for the x86 architecture has been completely discontinued, now the distribution is redirected exclusively to the x86_64 architecture and the AMD64 core;
- BIOS and UEFI boot is now available with Secure Boot;
- Hundreds of new utility packages have been added;
- Attempts to automatically configure complex block device layouts have been removed in favor of udisksctl control with tab completion;
- Other legacy features and boot modes have been discontinued or no longer supported in favor of booting from the main USB/CD.
