Firefox 66 is not friendly with PowerPoint Online

Firefox 66 recently released a new issue that forced Mozilla to stop rolling out the update. The issue is reported to be related to PowerPoint Online.

The updated browser is reportedly unable to save text when entering it into an online presentation. Mozilla is currently testing fixes in its builds of Firefox Nightly, but until then, rollout of the release version is on hold.

For those who constantly use the "red" browser and do not want to change anything, but who still need to use PowerPoint Online in Firefox, you need to change the dom.keyboardevent.keypress.hack.use_legacy_keycode_and_charcode setting to powerpoint.officeapps.live.com. After reloading the page, everything will work.

Mozilla is expected to use its Normandy remote preference update system to roll out the fix to all users once it has been properly tested. By the way, the web version of Skype stopped working in Firefox earlier. An interesting coincidence, given that both programs are developed by Microsoft.

At the same time, we note that the developers have already released assembly 66.0.1. It fixes two critical vulnerabilities that could allow code execution when processing custom web pages. The gaps were in the code of the JIT compiler. In the first case, it was possible to pass incorrect alias data to the JIT when executing the Array.prototype.slice method. This allowed a buffer overflow to be triggered. In the second case, the problem was related to incorrect type inference when processing object changes using the "__proto__" construct. This option allowed reading and writing data to arbitrary memory areas.

Recall that Firefox 66 introduced a sound blocking feature on tabs that may contain video ads. There is also the ability to search through tabs, which can be useful for those who work with dozens of web pages at the same time. Additionally, Ubuntu 18.10, 18.04 LTS, and 16.04 LTS users can now install Firefox 66 from the repositories.
