Firefox 67

Available Firefox 67 release.

Major changes:

  • Browser speed up:
    • Reduced setTimeout priority when loading a page (for example, Instagram, Amazon and Google scripts now load 40-80% faster); viewing alternative style sheets only after the page is loaded; refusal to load the autocomplete module if there are no input forms on the page.
    • Performing a draw early, but calling it more infrequently.
    • Delayed initialization of browser components and subsystems (for example, add-ons responsible for browser design).
    • Unload unused tabs if less than 400 megabytes of free memory is left.
  • Content blocking now spreads on cryptominers and sites caught collecting digital fingerprints.
  • Buttons on the toolbar are now fully accessible without the use of a mouse.
  • Appeared ability to save passwords in private browsing mode.
  • New add-ons installed by the user will not work in private browsing mode until this
    not explicitly allowed.
  • Disabling autocomplete of saved logins and passwords has been added to the saved passwords management window. Before that, it was only available through about:config.
  • Added to the toolbar sync control button and related activities.
  • In the action menu (ellipsis in the address bar), the item "Pin tab" has been added.
  • When visiting a site that has leaked data in the past 12 months (verified against haveibeenpwned.com), the user will receive a warning that their data may have been compromised and a prompt to check if the user's account has been leaked.
  • The browser will offer the user various features (such as pinning tabs) if it finds them useful. This feature is disabled in the settings GUI.
  • Simplified access to saved credentials: the corresponding item has been added to the main menu, and when entering a login, the browser will offer to view all saved logins for the current site (the display of this footer is controlled by the signon.showAutoCompleteFooter setting).
  • Highlighting input forms for which the login and password are saved.
  • The "Import from another browser..." item has been added to the "File" menu.
  • Firefox will use a separate profile for each installation (including Nightly, Beta, Developer, and ESR editions), allowing them to run in parallel.
  • Firefox will prevent a profile used in a newer version from running in older versions, as this may result in data loss (for example, newer versions use a different add-on data storage backend). To bypass protection, launch the browser with the -allow-downgrade key.
  • AV1 format decoder is now used dav1d.
  • Support included FIDO U2F, since some sites still use this API instead of the modern WebAuthn.
  • Some users will be offered a different placement of Pocket blocks on the home page, as well as content on new topics.
  • Added support for new emoji from the Unicode 11.0 standard.
  • Removed saving screenshots in the "cloud". The server will be down soon, users are advised download your screenshotsif they are needed. The extremely low demand for the service was cited as the reason.
  • The number of "recently closed tabs" has been increased from 10 to 25.
  • Implemented support prefers-color-scheme, which allows the site to adapt to the browser theme chosen by the user (light or dark). For example, if the dark theme is enabled in Firefox, Bugzilla will also become dark.
  • Method implemented String.prototype.matchAll().
  • For dynamic loading of JavaScript modules, a function is provided import(). It is now possible to load modules depending on conditions or in response to user actions, although such imports complicate the use of assembly tools that use static analysis for optimization,
  • WebRender (whose inclusion was originally expected in Firefox 64) will be activated for 5% of Windows 10 users with NVIDIA graphics cards. In the following weeks, if there are no problems, this figure will be increased to 100%. Developers this year plan focus on supporting other operating systems and graphics cards.
