flare 1.10

flare 1.10

A new major version of Flare, a free isometric RPG with hack-and-slash elements that has been in development since 2010, has been released. According to the developers, Flare's gameplay is reminiscent of the popular Diablo series, and the action of the official campaign takes place in a classic fantasy setting.

One of the distinguishing features of Flare is the ability to expand mods and creating your own campaigns on the game engine.

In this release:

  • Redesigned pause menu, which now allows you to change game settings without having to return to the main menu.
  • Added notification about low character health: now, if the amount of HP falls below a certain (user-settable) threshold, the player will receive a warning. The form of the warning can be changed in the settings: it can be a sound effect, a pop-up message, or a change in the shape of the cursor.
  • Over 20 different bugs in the game engine have been fixed, including, for example, the inability to use keyboard shortcuts when using layouts other than us. The full list of bug fixes is available at the link below.
  • Other fixes and changes to the engine and main campaign of the game, as well as updates to official translations (including Russian, Ukrainian and Belarusian).

As noted in the game blog, in the future it is planned to expand the alchemy system in the game (at the moment there are only two types of potions: restoring health and restoring mana) and partial graphics update in the campaign (samples from the new tileset can be seen on forum OpenGameArt).

Binary builds of the new version are available for GNU/Linux and Windows.

Recall that the Flare engine is distributed under the terms of the GPLv3 license, game resources are CC-BY-SA.
