The FreeBSD Foundation announced that it has received a €686400 investment from Germany's STF (Sovereign Tech Fund) to improve infrastructure, security, developer tools and regulatory compliance. The work for which funding has been received is planned to be carried out from August 2024 to early 2025, and will focus on five projects:
- Improved tools and processes for organizing builds in unprotected environments that can be compromised (Zero Trust architecture).
- Implementation of combined continuous integration and continuous deployment tools (CI/CD - Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery) to speed up development and shorten release generation cycles.
- Develop utilities and processes to reduce technical debt.
- Modernization and expansion of tools to maintain the security of a collection of applications and ports, as well as bringing them into compliance with the requirements of European legislation in the field of software security.
- Creation of new and expansion of existing tools and processes to account for components and dependencies used during assembly (SBOM - Software Bill Of Material).
