The SPO Foundation will review the composition of the board of directors with the involvement of the community

The SPO Fund announced the results of the meeting of the Board of Directors held on Wednesday, at which it was decided to make changes to the processes related to the management of the Fund and the admission of new members to the Board of Directors. It was decided to put into practice a transparent process for identifying candidates and appointing new members of the Board of Directors who are worthy and able to follow the mission of the SPO Foundation. Outside participants will be given the opportunity to express their opinion when discussing candidates.

All current board members, including Stallman, will have to go through a new approval process that will determine who ends up on the board. In addition, the board of directors will include a staff representative who will be chosen by ordinary employees of the SPO Fund. Changes to the statutory documents will be made within 30 days after consultation with lawyers. Another meeting of the Board of Directors is scheduled for March 25 to develop additional decisions on the issue of changing management processes.

Additionally, it can be noted that the European Open Source Foundation, the EFF (Electronic Frontier Foundation), Mozilla, Tor, FreeDOS, GNOME Foundation, X.org Foundation, HardenedBSD Foundation, MidnightBSD, Open Life Science, Open Source Diversity have joined the advocates for Stallman's removal. In total, an open letter demanding the resignation of the entire board of directors of the SPO Foundation and the removal of Stallman was signed by about 1900 people, and a letter in support of Stallman was signed by about 1300 people.

The Free Software Foundation Europe (the Free Software Foundation's counterpart, registered in Europe and operating as a completely separate organization) has stated that it does not approve of Stallman's return to the Free Software Foundation's board of directors and believes that the move would harm the future of the free software movement. Prior to Stallman's suspension, the European Free Software Foundation refused to cooperate with the Free Software Foundation and any other organizations in which Richard Stallman is among the leaders.

The human rights organization EFF (Electronic Frontier Foundation) expressed dissatisfaction with Stallman's return to the Free Software Foundation and the secret re-election process, which was hidden from the staff and supporters of the Free Software Foundation. According to the EFF, Stallman did not realize his mistakes and did not try to smooth his guilt over the people who suffered because of his past statements and actions. The EFF called on voting members of the Free Software Foundation to convene a special meeting to review the decision to include Stallman on the board of directors. The EFF also approached Stallman with an offer to leave on his own for the Free Software Foundation and the Free Software Movement.
