The magnificent image has a total of 1,8 billion pixels. It was obtained by combining more than 1000 individual photographs taken by the Mast Camera (Mastcam) instrument, which is installed on board the automatic rover Curiosity.

The photo was taken at the end of last year. A total of more than six and a half hours was spent on obtaining individual photographs over four days.

In addition, a 650-megapixel panorama has been made public, which, in addition to the landscape of the Red Planet, captures the Curiosity automatic apparatus itself. The elements of its design and damaged wheels are clearly visible. Panoramas in full resolution can be viewed here.
