Beresheet is an Israeli lunar probe built by private company SpaceIL. The device was launched on February 22, 2019 using a Falcon 9 launch vehicle from the SLC-40 launch site at Cape Canaveral.

Beresheet was expected to be the first private spacecraft to reach the surface of the moon. Alas, during the landing on April 11, 2019, the main engine failed at the probe, as a result of which the device crashed on the surface of the natural satellite of our planet.

However, just before the crash, Bereshit managed to take pictures of the lunar surface. The image (see below) also shows the structural elements of the device itself.

Meanwhile, SpaceIL has already announced its intention to create the Beresheet-2 probe, which will try to make a soft landing on the moon. It remains to be hoped that the mission of this apparatus will be fully realized.
