This cosmic structure was discovered back in 1784 by the famous British astronomer of German origin, William Herschel. The named galaxy is located at a distance of approximately 30 million light-years from us in the constellation Leo.

NGC 2903 is a barred spiral galaxy. In such objects, the spiral arms begin at the ends of the bar, while in ordinary spiral galaxies they emerge directly from the core.

The presented image clearly shows the structure of the galaxy NGC 2903. A feature of the object is the high rate of star formation in the near-nuclear region. Spiral branches are clearly visible in the photograph.

We add that the other day "Hubble" celebrated its 29th anniversary of being in space. The device was launched on April 24, 1990 aboard the Discovery shuttle STS-31. For almost thirty years of service, the orbital observatory has transmitted to Earth a huge amount of beautiful pictures of the Universe and a lot of scientific information.
