Foxconn will soon begin mass production of iPhone smartphones in India. This was announced by company CEO Terry Gou, dispelling fears that Foxconn would choose China over India, where it is building new production lines.

However, it is not yet clear how this will affect Foxconn’s construction in China and which models will be produced in India. According to the latest rumors, the company plans to assemble even the hi-end iPhone X model here.

“We intend to play a very important role in the smartphone industry in India in the future,” Gou said at the event after announcing his resignation as the company's CEO. “We moved our production lines here.”

Foxconn has already set up production in India, producing devices on a contract basis for a variety of companies. This move will reduce Foxconn's dependence on China, and potentially also reduce the impact of a possible US-China trade war on its cooperation with Apple.
