FSB received powers for division of domains

More and more government agencies in Russia are gaining access to pre-trial blocking of sites. In addition to Kaspersky Lab, Group-IB, Roskomnadzor and the Central Bank, now the FSB has the right to do so. At the same time, it is noted that the separation procedure is not enshrined in Russian legislation, but it can significantly speed up blocking.

FSB received powers for division of domains

National Coordinating Center for Computer Incidents (NCCC) FSB entered in the list of competent organizations of the Coordination Center for .ru/.rf domains (CC RF). This structure will deal with sites from which cyber attacks are coming and block them. The agreement was signed on 30 July.

The new status allows NKTsKI to address domain name registrars with complaints, as a result of which this or that resource can be divided. Andrey Vorobyov, director of the RF CC, said that the NCCCI will search for phishing resources, sites with malware, as well as monitor various attacks.

As noted, in June 2019 alone, registrars received 555 requests to terminate the delegation of a domain name. Of these, 548 resources were blocked. And last year their number was much higher.

According to Nikolai Murashov, deputy director of the FSB NKTsKI, criminals are trying to obtain information about Russian technologies in key industries. These are nuclear energy, rocket science, defense industry, and so on.

At the same time, we note that domain partitioning means that the site will be unavailable until it receives a new name. This is considered to be more efficient than regular access blocks.
