It became known that the Fast Startup feature in Windows 10, which speeds up the process of loading the operating system and is activated by default on most computers, may prevent updates from installing correctly. This is stated in Microsoft, which was published on the company's official support site.
The message states that some post-installation updates may require a number of steps to be performed the next time the computer is turned on. However, the operations that Windows Update needs to perform will not be performed if the Fast Startup feature is enabled on the computer, because then the PC will not turn off completely.
βWithout a full shutdown, pending operations will not be processed. As a result, the installation of updates will not complete correctly. A full shutdown occurs only when the computer is restarted or when some other event causes a full shutdown, βMicrosoft said in a statement.
The developers also mentioned the intention to solve this problem in a future version of Windows. If you encounter a problem while installing updates for Windows 10, then most likely disabling fastboot mode will help fix the situation.
As a reminder, the quick launch tool combines the functions of hibernation and shutdown. When you exit, the user session is terminated while the system session goes into hibernation. Accordingly, when you turn on the computer, the system session wakes up from hibernation, and does not boot from scratch, which makes the OS start faster.
