Pressing this switch will turn on the 1,5x digital zoom mode, so the user will be able to take a macro shot without having to hold the phone physically close to the subject. This trick (using digital zoom for macro photography) has probably already been used by many, and the zoom bar makes the process more or less automated. Essentially, the new feature aims to help beginners figure out the camera's features with hints when trying to take macro shots. The stock resolution of the sensor allows you to take fairly clear shots with a 1,5x zoom.
It's worth emphasizing that this feature is not available on the Galaxy S20 and Galaxy S20+. This is probably due to the fact that these models have more advanced autofocus, can shoot from a closer distance, and the sensor resolution of 12 megapixels is not enough to rely on 1,5x digital zoom.
