gamescom does not give up on COVID-19: the exhibition can be held digitally

The organizers of gamescom 2020 have issued a statement expressing doubts about holding the exhibition in Cologne due to the spread of COVID-19. In mid-May, an assessment of the situation will be carried out in order to determine whether the event will take place in the originally planned format or go completely digital.

β€œIf the event takes place at the planned location, more information will be provided on what changes need to be made to fully ensure the health of all visitors,” the statement said. β€œThis has been agreed with the largest contributors, so all gamescom plans are in place.”

There is now more focus on the digital aspect of the show, such as the Opening Night Live event that took place in 2019. The organizers of gamescom said that this time the show will be "significantly expanded, with the addition of new modules." Thus, from August 25 to 29, the exhibition will be held "at least in digital format", even if the traditional venue for the event in Cologne closes. The same applies to the Devcom developer conference, which will be held from August 22 to 24.

If the organizers decide to completely transfer the exhibition to digital format, participants and visitors will be able to return the money for tickets.
