Microsoft has announced that it will not be attending the Game Developers Conference 2020 in San Francisco due to the COVID-19 outbreak.

Scheduled sessions with game developers will be held online from March 16-18. β€œAfter careful consideration of the recommendations of global health authorities and out of caution, we have made the difficult decision to withdraw from the Game Developers Conference 2020 in San Francisco. The health and safety of players, developers, employees and our partners around the world is our top priority. Especially as the global public health risk associated with coronavirus (COVID-19) is growing,” the company said in a statement.

In addition to Microsoft, today Unity Technologies also refused to participate in GDC 2020. There are no plans to show details of the latest Unity Engine update online. More details will be published in the coming weeks.

In addition to Microsoft and Unity, the event will be skipped Kojima Productions, Electronic Arts, Sony Interactive Entertainment and Facebook. In the meantime, the organizers of the Game Developers Conference 2020 assured the rest of the guests and participants that the conference will take place as scheduled from March 16 to 20.
