US Attorney General: Huawei and ZTE cannot be trusted

Washington continues to build barriers to expand the ban on the use of telecommunications equipment from Chinese manufacturers in the United States.

US Attorney General: Huawei and ZTE cannot be trusted

“Huawei Technologies and ZTE cannot be trusted,” said U.S. Attorney General William Barr, who called the Chinese firms a security risk and supported a proposal to block rural wireless carriers from using government funds to buy equipment or services from them.

In a letter to the US Federal Communications Commission (FCC) published on Thursday, Barr said the firms' own track records, as well as the Chinese government's practices, demonstrate that Huawei and ZTE cannot be trusted.

On November 22, the FCC will vote on a proposal to require mobile operators to dismantle and replace equipment from Chinese companies.
