Project Gentoo Distribution Kernel published new Linux kernel packages.
- A kernel with genpatches applied, built using a package manager, with either default or custom configuration
sys-kernel/gentoo-kernel
- Prebuilt (binary) version of gentoo-kernel
sys-kernel/gentoo-kernel-bin
- Unmodified "vanilla" core
sys-kernel/vanilla-kernel
The main difference between using Distribution Kernels is the ability to update to new versions during the general update of the βworldβ, without additional manual steps.
By default, these kernels support most hardware, but they can be further configured in /etc/portage/savedconfig.
