GIMP 2.10.14

GIMP 2.10.14

A new version of the GIMP graphics editor has been released.

Major changes:

  • it became possible to view and edit pixels outside the canvas (without support for selection tools yet);
  • added optional editing of layers with disabled visibility;
  • added an experimental filter for generating a normal map from a height map and several more GEGL-based filters (Bayer Matrix, Linear Sinusoid, Newsprint, Mean Curvature Blur);
  • 27 more old filters now use GEGL buffers (currently in 8 bits per channel mode, not ported to GEGL operations);
  • improved support for HEIF, TIFF and PDF;
  • improved loading of corrupted XCF files;
  • Work with grayscale images has been greatly accelerated;
  • added support for macOS Catalina.

Version 2.99.2 is planned to be released in the next couple of months. This will be the first release based on GTK3 (master branch in Git), with minimal functional differences from 2.10.x and extensive code refactoring (removal of crutches, preparation for innovations planned for version 3.2).
