GIMP 2.10.20

GIMP 2.10.20

A new version of the free graphics editor has been released GIMP.

Changes:

  • By default, tool groups now expand on hover, no need to click (but you can set it to expand on click if you want). Layer grouping can still be turned off altogether.
  • A simple non-destructive cropping has appeared: now only the canvas is cropped by default; you can crop, save XCF, exit the program, restart, open a project file, crop in a different way. The old behavior is returned by enabling the 'Delete cropped pixels' checkbox in the cropping tool options.
  • Added filter control Vignette right on the canvas: you can directly on the photo with the mouse indicate which area does not change, where the vignette reaches its maximum darkening, where the intermediate point is located, which controls the linearity of the vignetting, etc.
  • Added three new filters to simulate out-of-field blurring: two low-level (Variable Blur ΠΈ Lens Blur) where you can specify a layer or channel as a blur mask, and one high-level with a simple control on the canvas as in a filter Vignette. In the future, it is possible to collapse up to two filters, since both low-level filters differ mainly in the blurring algorithm itself
  • A Bloom filter has been added to create a glow effect for bright areas.
  • All GEGL-based filters have a built-in blending control (mode + opacity). This innovation will be revealed to the maximum in the future, when non-destructive editing will be implemented.
  • GEGL based filter previews are now cached. You can turn it on and off without having to wait for the preview to re-render even when there were no changes.
  • Implemented saving PSD with a bit depth of 16 bits per channel, corrected the order of loading and saving channels when working with PSD.
  • In PNG and TIFF plugins, by default, saving pixel color values at zero value in the alpha channel is disabled. This is due to the fact that, as it turned out, some people use GIMP to remove sensitive information from screenshots by simply cutting to the clipboard (Cut) or deleting. This will save beginners from a fate worse than death, and experienced users will easily find how to turn the feature back on.
