GitHub statistics on developer activity, work efficiency and collaboration from January to the end of March 2020 compared to the same period in 2019. The main attention is focused on the changes that have occurred in connection with the coronavirus infection COVID-19.
Among the findings:
- Development activity remains at the same level or even higher than at the same time last year.
- Recently, there has been an increase in Issue reports, which are most likely caused by restructuring due to the transition to remote work.
- Working hours have increased - developers began to work longer, both on weekdays and on weekends (at the end of March, working hours increased by an hour a day). It is assumed that the increase in working hours is due to the fact that due to working from home, developers take more breaks in which they are distracted by household chores.
- Collaboration activity has increased, especially in open source projects. Compared to last year, the time to process pull requests in open projects has decreased.
- There are fears that increasing the amount of time spent on the Internet and doing extra work at the expense of personal time and rest, can lead to emotional burnout of developers.
