It was recently announced that Fab 8, located in New York State, will not only be expanded, but will also receive ITAR certification, which allows it to receive long-term defense contracts. The release of critical components in the United States is now being actively discussed by the authorities of the country, for this, TSMC allowed itself to be drawn into a gamble with the construction of an enterprise in Arizona.

Mike Hogan, head of orders for the defense and aerospace industries at GlobalFoundries, in an interview with the publication EE Times said that in cooperation with partner SkyWater, the company will develop and implement new advanced types of layout solutions, including multi-chip ones. A modular approach to the creation of processors is beneficial to both the contract manufacturer and the customer. The latter saves money on the development of new products, and the final manufacturer gets the opportunity to serve many customers by releasing different products for them in relatively small batches.

According to a representative of GlobalFoundries, it is in the development of appropriate layout competencies that the key to the revival of the US national semiconductor industry lies. There is no point in chasing "bare nanometers". New stages of lithographic technology, according to GlobalFoundries, demonstrate "prohibitive high budgets." Progress can be made through new approaches to the layout of processors. This idea is now voiced by many developers, and from representatives of the leader in the contract services segment, TSMC, it is also distributed regularly.
