GNU GRUB 2.04

On July 5, a new stable version of the GRUB boot loader from the GNU project was released. This loader complies with the Multiboot specification, supports a large number of platforms, and is one of the most widely used loaders for operating systems based on the Linux kernel. The bootloader is also capable of booting many other operating systems, including Windows, Solaris, OS of the BSD family.

The new stable version of the bootloader is different from the previous one (version 2.02 was introduced on April 25, 2017) a large number of changes, among which it is worth highlighting:

  • Support for RISK-V architecture
  • Native support for UEFI Secure boot
  • F2FS file system support
  • Support UEFI TPM 1.2/2.0
  • Various Btfrs improvements, including experimental support for Zstd and RAID 5/6
  • GCC 8 and 9 compiler support
  • Support for Xen PVH virtualization
  • Bootloader built-in DHCP and VLAN support
  • Many different improvements to work with arm-coreboot
  • Early loading of multiple Initrd Images (Multiple Early Initrd Images) before loading the main image.

Many different bugs have also been fixed.
