Voting to change the "openSUSE" logo and name

On June 3rd, on the openSUSE mailing list, a certain Stasiek Michalski started a discussion about the possibility of changing the logo and name of the project. Among the reasons, he cited the following:

Logo:

  • Similar to the old version of the SUSE logo, which can be confusing. It also mentions the need for an agreement between the future openSUSE Foundation and SUSE for the right to use the logo.
  • The colors of the current logo are too bright and light, so they do not stand out well against a light background.

Project name:

  • Contains the abbreviation SUSE, which will also require an agreement (it is noted that an agreement will be required in any case, since there is a need to support older releases. But it is suggested to think now and set the vector of movement towards an independent name).
  • It is difficult for people to remember how the name is spelled correctly, where are capital letters and where are lowercase letters.
  • FSF finds fault with the word "open" in the name (lettering in the form of "open" and "free").

Voting will be held from 10 to 31 October among the project participants who have the right to vote. The results will be announced on November 1st.
