NACON and development studio KT Racing (aka Kylotonn) in March is the next installment in the official series of rally races produced for the FIA World Rally Championship. Now the first trailer with a demonstration of the gameplay has been presented and a release date has been announced.
At the time of the announcement, the product was announced for a late summer release on current generation consoles and a later launch on next generation systems. Now the information has been specified: the developers plan to release WRC 9 on September 3, 2020 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC (in the Epic Games store). But the launch for Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5 and Xbox One Series X will take place later.
The featured gameplay trailer gives racing fans a glimpse of the work KT Racing has done to recreate the iconic New Zealand Rally, which is returning to the FIA World Rally Championship after a seven-year hiatus. This is one of three new rallies this season, along with the Kenya Safari and the Japan Rally.
In the New Zealand Rally, players will face the challenge of driving along the rugged coastline and wilderness around Auckland in the heart of the North Island. “The roads in New Zealand are some of the most beautiful and most valuable in the history of the Championship,” said Benoît Gomes, lead level designer at KT Racing. Known for its fast series of turns and steady pace, as well as its breathtaking scenery, the New Zealand Rally really offers a special experience. Long preparatory work allowed us to accurately reproduce the lush vegetation, light and unique views of the ocean, as well as the topography of the road and surfaces, mainly composed of gravel. We are convinced players will enjoy this challenge as much as we did in WRC 9."
