Google Assistant Gets Duplex Functions to Simplify Website Bookings

At Google I/O 2018 was presented curious technology Duplex, which caused genuine delight of the public. The assembled audience was shown how the voice assistant independently arranges a meeting or makes a table reservation, and for greater realism, the Assistant inserts interjections into speech, reacting to the person’s words with words like: “uh-huh” or “yeah.” At the same time, Google Duplex warns interlocutor that the conversation is being conducted with the robot, and the conversation is being recorded.

During I/O 2019, the company announced the expansion of Duplex to websites so that Assistant can help you complete tasks online. Often, when a booking or online ordering process occurs, a person has to navigate through several pages, zooming in and out in order to fill out all the forms. With Duplex-powered Assistant, these tasks will be completed much faster as the system can automatically fill out complex forms and navigate the site.

For example, you can simply make a request to the Assistant: “Book a car with National for my next trip,” and the assistant will figure out all the other details. AI will navigate the site and enter user data: trip information saved in Gmail, payment data from Chrome, and so on. Duplex for the Web will launch later this year in English in the US and UK on Android phones and will support car rentals and movie ticket bookings.
