Google Assistant is coming to most Chromebooks

Google has unveiled the release of the Chrome OS 77 software platform, and this opens up access to the Google Assistant voice assistant for most owners of devices based on this operating system.

Previously, only Pixel devices could use the voice assistant. With the release of the new version of the operating system, Google Assistant will become available on many Chromebooks. To start interacting with the assistant, just say "Hey Google" or click on the corresponding icon in the taskbar. Google Assistant makes it possible to interact with the device through voice commands, with its help you can set reminders, turn on music, and perform other actions.

Another innovation allows users to control sound from one place. This feature will be useful, for example, if suddenly a video with sound starts playing on one of the many browser tabs. By clicking on the corresponding icon in the lower right corner of the screen, you will get access to the sound control widget.

In addition, some updates have affected the "Family Link" parental control mode. Now it will be easier for parents to add additional minutes, allowing the child to interact with the device for longer.

The updated platform also makes it easier to send web pages to other devices. This is a feature that was recently implemented in the Chrome 77 browser. In order to use it, just click on the address bar and select the "Send to another device" option. In addition, a new battery saver function has been integrated, which automatically turns off the device after three days of waiting.

Google's official announcement states that the update will roll out gradually over several days. This means that the updated software platform will be available to all Chromebook users in the near future.
