Google Chrome will let users launch Progressive Web Apps when Windows boots

With each update, Google is trying to improve the work of Progressive Web Apps in the proprietary Chrome browser. Last month, the company replaced some Android apps for Chrome OS users with PWA versions. Google has now released a new build of the Chrome Canary browser that allows PWAs to run on Windows boot.

This feature was first discovered by Techdows and is currently hidden. To access it, users of the current build of Chrome Canary need to follow the following procedure:

  • Enter "chrome://flags" in the address bar of your browser.
  • Enter "Desktop PWAs run on OS login" in the search bar.
  • Select the "Enabled" option from the drop-down menu.
  • Restart browser.

After activating the new feature, when trying to install the PWA app, the browser will offer the option "Launch app at login". If you check the box next to this item, the application will start automatically the next time you log in.

Unfortunately, it is not yet possible to remove the application from startup using regular Chrome tools. Using the browser, you can only delete the application and install it again without activating the new function. However, you can use Windows Explorer and simply remove the PWA shortcut from the Startup folder.
