Google will give third-party extensions access to the tab context menu

In August, information appeared that Google developers had removed some elements from the tab context menu in the Chrome browser. At the moment, the only options left are “New Tab”, “Close other tabs”, “Open a closed window” and “Add all tabs to bookmarks”.

Google will give third-party extensions access to the tab context menu

However, reducing the number of points the company intends to compensate in that it will allow third-party extensions to add their own options to the context menu. The chrome.contextMenus API will be used for this.

There's no timeline for this feature yet, but you can expect Google to enable the feature soon. Most likely, this will happen in the next Canary builds, although the change may not be accepted.

By the way, previously Microsoft made Google's proposed changes to the context menu in its Chromium-based Edge browser. It is possible that the blue browser will also eventually have a function that allows third-party extensions to add their own items to the menu.

In general, corporations have been experimenting with browsers, their ease of use, and expanding their capabilities for a long time. And this is good news, because the presence of different options for web browsers on the market plays into the hands of users. Even the fact that most of them are built on the same Chromium engine doesn't make the situation much worse. After all, the engine implements only basic functionality; everything else depends on the developers.
