Google has added a simplified paste from the clipboard to Gboard

After testing the placement of the Google logo on the Gboard for Android keyboard to the annoyance of many users, the search giant has moved on to testing a far more useful feature. Some Gboard users have already been able to use a more convenient one-click paste.

One of 9to5Google journalists' devices also has this new Gboard feature. Above the main keyboard buttons in the prompt line, after copying something to the clipboard, a new line appears with a suggestion to paste the contents of the clipboard. As you can see in the presented GIF animation, this function appears in place of a quick access to stickers or a GIF search. However, the suggestion only appears when something has been copied to the clipboard.

Touching such a tooltip button pastes whatever is on the clipboard into the field that is currently in use. The standard iOS keyboard has been offering this handy shortcut for quite some time, and while Gboard's implementation is slightly different, it still works well.

Another interesting point is how this tool handles passwords. When pasted into the password field, Gboard displays dots instead of text.

It is not yet clear how broad functionality is planned. Those who wish can check it on their own smartphone - a long press is not always convenient, and the ability to insert with one touch can make life much easier. Journalists noticed the feature in the latest beta version of Gboard (9.3.8.306379758), but this is a server-side deployment, so you just need to be patient.
