Google Meet arrives in Gmail for iOS and Android as a large tab

Google has taken another step towards integrating Meet into Gmail by adding video conferencing directly to Gmail for iOS and Android. Gmail mobile users won't need the dedicated Google Meet app to participate in meetings. If the user does not want Meet to be displayed as a tab, they will have to manually disable the Meet integration in the settings menu.

Google Meet arrives in Gmail for iOS and Android as a large tab

Google made Meet a free app for everyone in late April, and since then, the search giant has taken steps to integrate the service into Gmail. The new Meet tab will be available to all Gmail for iOS and Android users in the coming weeks in a phased rollout.

Google is really pushing Meet as part of Gmail, so there are giant blue buttons in Calendar. The new mobile integration move is yet another attempt to keep up with the rapidly growing popularity of Zoom, which has exploded during lockdown around the world. Both Google and Microsoft have been actively pushing new features and free services in recent months to win over Zoom users.

By the way, recently Google demonstrated in practice a very interesting development regarding Meet - advanced noise suppression based on artificial intelligence. So far, however, ordinary Meet users should not rely on it: G Suite Enterprise customers will be the first to receive innovations (first the web version, and then the mobile ones).
