Google may add clipboard, Wi-Fi password and phone number sharing between Chrome OS and Android

Currently, Google only supports two operating systems: Android for mobile devices and Chrome OS for laptops. And although they have much in common, they still do not form a single ecosystem. The company is trying to change that by first introducing the Play Store for Chrome OS and then adding Instant Tethering support for many mobile devices and Chromebooks.

And now, it looks like the development team is working on adding more integration between systems. A commit called "OneChrome demo" is reportedly found in the bug tracker. It is like a work in progress project that includes several features. The most important of these is the division of telephone numbers between systems.

Judging by the code, the function allows you to send a number found on the Internet from a Chromebook to an Android device. It says unified clipboard (hello Windows 10 May 2019 Update). At the same time, it is stated that the data is transmitted over a secure channel with end-to-end encryption, which makes it impossible to attack the β€œman in the middle” type. In other words, the search giant is trying to create a system similar to iOS + macOS.

It also talks about synchronizing Wi-Fi passwords between devices. Judging by the comments, this only applies to Chrome OS, but one of the Google reviewers claims that this feature may appear on Android as well. That is, passwords will be tied to a Google account and can be recovered if necessary.

It goes without saying that all of these features are in the very early stages of development. So far, the company does not even specify the estimated release time, but, most likely, sooner or later they will be presented on the Canary channel.
