Google officially unveiled Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL: no surprises

After months of leaks and anticipation, Google has finally released its latest Pixel series smartphones. The Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL will replace the Pixel 3 and Pixel 3 XL released last year. Unfortunately for Google, there wasn't much that surprised the public: thanks to the leaks, details about both devices were well known even before the official launch.

Nevertheless, we will briefly outline all the technical characteristics of both devices. The Google Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL are equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855 single-chip system, which is complemented by 6 GB of LPDDR4x RAM and 64 or 128 GB of high-speed storage. Google Pixel 4 has a 5,7-inch OLED display with a resolution of 2220 Γ— 1080 and a refresh rate of 90 Hz, and is also equipped with a 2800 mAh battery.

If we talk about the Pixel 4 XL, then the larger smartphone received a 6,3-inch OLED panel with a resolution of 3200 Γ— 1800 and an equally high refresh rate of 90 Hz. The device is equipped with a 3700 mAh battery to power the device. Both devices include support for Bluetooth 5+ LE, NFC and have a USB-C 3.1 port for charging and headphones.

Separately, it should be said about the rear cameras. smartphones, in addition to the main 12,2 megapixel sensor, got a 16 megapixel telephoto module with a 2x zoom. The third sensor is not a camera, but is designed to capture additional details such as depth information and help create more realistic bokeh. The Pixel 4 or Pixel 4 XL doesn't have an ultra-wide module, which is quite popular these days. The rear camera will support 4K recording at 30fps and 1080p recording at 60fps.

On the front, in the top bezel, is an 8MP self-portrait camera capable of recording 1080p video at 60fps. Also on this top, Google has placed several sensors that provide two new features. One of them is an analogue of Google's face unlock system in the spirit of Apple's Face ID. The other is the new Motion Sense interaction method, which lets you control your Pixel 4 with hand gestures without touching your phone. Motion Sense uses Google Project Soli technology. This allows you to control music playback or reject an incoming call by waving your hand next to the phone's display. Motion Sense data processing occurs locally on the device, with Google noting that this feature can be turned off at any time.

Of course, as befits the Pixel series, Google promises a ton of new software features like an updated Assistant voice assistant, an advanced built-in audio recording app, smart photo modes, including night or Live HDR +, and so on. A special Google Titan M chip is responsible for security, and updates are guaranteed for 3 years.
