Google is ditching Android voice search in favor of a virtual assistant

Prior to the advent of Google Assistant, the Android mobile platform had a "Voice Search" feature that was tightly integrated with the main search engine. In recent years, all the innovations have been centered around the virtual assistant, so the Google development team decided to completely replace the Voice Search feature on Android.

Google is ditching Android voice search in favor of a virtual assistant

Until recently, you could interact with Voice Search through the Google app, a special search widget, or an app shortcut. By clicking on the icon with a microphone, it was possible to fulfill a request to search for information of interest. For many users, the old voice search is associated with the phrase "OK Google".

The voice search icon has now been replaced by an icon depicting the letter "G". In this case, the user sees the old interface, but the requests are processed by the virtual assistant. The report states that the innovation has not yet been widely adopted.

Despite the fact that the old voice search supports a large number of languages and has a lot of fans around the world, in the future it will be replaced by Google Assistant. There is hardly any doubt that in the future Google will integrate innovation into all available software solutions used in various devices. Most likely, at present, the new feature is no longer being tested, but is beginning to spread everywhere. Google doesn't want to mislead users by offering two very similar features related to voice search.
