Google canceled an important innovation in Android Q

As you know, a version of the Android Q operating system is currently under development, for which two betas have already been released. And one of the key innovations in these assemblies was the Scoped Storage function, which changes the way applications access the device's file system. But now, as reported, it will be removed.

The bottom line is that Scoped Storage has implemented its own memory area for each program. This made it possible to increase the security of the system as a whole, as well as get rid of annoying permissions. At the same time, applications did not have access to the data of other programs. However, the theoretical concept did not stand the test of reality.

First, very few programs today support Scoped Storage, which is why Google has added a compatibility mode. It forcibly disables Scoped Storage limits for apps installed prior to Android Q 9 beta installation. This also applies to apps built for Android XNUMX+. However, it turned out that the mode is disabled when reinstalling or removing programs. That is, applications stop working. At the same time, developers simply do not have time to implement full support for Scoped Storage by the final release of Android Q, which is expected in the fall.

Because of this, Mountain View decided to move the implementation of Scoped Storage by a year - by the time Android R is released. Thus, the appearance of a "protected version of Android" is again postponed. However, we can hope that in 2020 this feature will be implemented.

At the same time, a similar possibility of security control in iOS is criticized by all and sundry. Because of this, jailbreaks for new versions of the "apple" system are still being released, and many users demand that Tim Cook change the rules of the game. True, Apple does not respond to this.
