During the opening of the Google I / O developer conference, the company introduced a new model of the Nest Hub Max smart home control center, which expands the functionality of the home hub launched at the end of last year.
Recall that before Google purposefully did not embed it, believing that this would save users from fears of violating the privacy of their privacy. The new device now also includes the functionality of an indoor surveillance camera.
The camera recognizes households and activates their personalized screens, displaying calendar notifications, tasks and user photos. The Face Match feature works locally and does not require data to be sent to the cloud, according to the company. As shown in the promotional video, you can leave video messages for family members on the device itself.
The main features, of course, are provided by the Google Assistant voice assistant, which provides answers not only in sound, but also in visual format. Particular attention has been paid to the quality of stereo speakers with a subwoofer and the operation of two long-range microphones with Voice Match, which distinguishes users' voices for more accurate perception of commands.
Video calls are made through the Google Duo messenger, and the company emphasizes the presence of a green indicator that indicates the operation of the camera. In addition, there is a special switch on the back that physically interrupts the operation of the camera and microphones.
Assigning a device as a smart home control center is done as before: through voice commands or a touch screen. Nest Hub Max allows you to listen to music, watch YouTube or live streams. If you want the device to pause playback or mute the sound, just make the appropriate hand gesture.
Google promises to start selling the Nest Hub Max in July at a price of $229, that is, one and a half times more expensive than the younger version. There are two colors to choose from: Charcoal and Chalk.
