Google has offered to settle a class action lawsuit filed by owners of Google Pixel smartphones in February 2018 alleging that the company knowingly sold devices with faulty microphones. Google has agreed to pay out up to $500 to some Pixel smartphone owners. According to preliminary calculations, the total amount of payments will be $ 7,25 million. Payments will be divided into four categories. The maximum amount of $500 is available to those who returned a Pixel smartphone with a defective microphone to the company and received the same defective device in return.
Other Pixel owners with a defective microphone will receive $350 in compensation. Those who do not report a sound defect in their smartphone are still eligible for compensation from Google in the amount of $20. Payments to those who received insurance from a third-party retailer due to a defective microphone will be determined on a case-by-case basis.
It should also be noted that all owners of defective Pixel and Pixel XL smartphones who join the lawsuit before July 9 of this year will have the right to receive compensation.
